How Leicester Heat Pumps Selects Installers
Last reviewed: 2 October 2026
Our approach
Leicester households are targeted by plenty of heat pump sales calls, some genuine and some not. We think you should know exactly how the installer you’re introduced to was chosen, and be able to check it independently. So here are our criteria, and how to verify each one.
The must-haves
1. MCS certification. MCS (the Microgeneration Certification Scheme) is the quality scheme for renewable heating installers. Since 28 April 2026 it’s a legal requirement of the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, so no MCS means no £7,500 grant. MCS installers also have to belong to a consumer code (RECC or HIES), which protects you on contracts, deposits and complaints. How to check: search the company on the MCS website’s installer search, and make sure the name matches your quote.
2. Genuinely local. The installer must regularly work in Leicester and the surrounding areas — Oadby, Wigston, Birstall and beyond — so they understand the city’s terraces and semis, its councils, and can come back for aftercare. How to check: ask for recent local jobs and a customer you can call.
The nice-to-haves
3. TrustMark registration — the government-endorsed scheme for work in the home. Not required for heat pumps, but a good extra signal. How to check: TrustMark’s business search.
4. Manufacturer approval — from brands such as Daikin, Vaillant, Mitsubishi Electric, Samsung or Worcester Bosch, usually meaning brand training and sometimes longer warranties. How to check: the manufacturer’s find-an-installer page.
5. Heat pump design training — for example through Heat Geek, which recognises installers skilled in low-temperature design. How to check: the training body’s directory.
What we don’t do
- install, service or repair heat pumps ourselves
- make cold calls or doorstep visits
- send your enquiry to more than one company
- publish reviews we can’t verify

If an installer introduced through this site doesn’t meet these standards, or you think their certification has lapsed, email [email protected]. We’ll stop sending them enquiries while we look into it.
